Q. I’m another builder and you built a clone of x pedal of mine for a customer. Can you stop doing that please?
A. It depends on the situation. Contact me directly at patrick@pjpedals.com and let’s talk.
Q. Will you build me a Timmy or a Tim?
A. Nope.
Q. Will you build me a Klon?
A. Nope.
Q. Will you build me a custom delay?
A. Nope.
Q. Aww. Then what will you build me?
A. I deal almost exclusively in analog effects and add-ons/accessories. I can/am willing to build nearly any pedal in that realm that meets the following criteria:
1) I have the schematic or can get the schematic
2) I don’t have a pre-existing arrangement with the originator of a circuit not to build their stuff
3) You aren’t asking for a DIRECT clone of a pedal which by itself constitutes another builder’s entire business or most of it (see above FAQ answers regarding Tim/Timmy/Klon pedals)
4) The price is right
5) It isn’t a delay
Q. The price you quoted me is more than/the same as the price as I can get the same circuit from x builder? Why bother buying yours?
A. This question is usually received when someone wants a clone and I quote them a higher price than they can buy the pedal from the originator. There are a couple of reasons that this happens sometimes.
One would be that I’m a much smaller shop that cannot afford to buy in bulk to the degree that larger outfits can, especially for custom work. So my overhead is higher.
Another would be that the aesthetic and style I use on my pedals (the etched face plates for example) does not come cheap.
So in short, I’m not offended if you decide you want to go with someone else. My prices are always fair for what it costs me to build, and if someone else either can margin on a cheaper price or doesn’t mind not making money, that’s awesome for them.
Q. How long is the turnaround time on x mod/How long will it take you to build my pedal?
A. Custom pedal builds are almost impossible to set a timeline for. There are so many factors in a custom one-off pedal build that are either beyond anyone’s control or require input from the customer that I can’t specify or guarantee any build time. Rest assured, I will communicate with you through the entire process, and you will see the progress!
For standard builds (products listed in the store), turnaround time is temporarily sitting at about 1 week, depending on the product ordered. This is my top end estimate, so many simpler items (tap tempos, small loopers, etc.) which don’t require a lot of custom work may be faster. I should have turnaround reduced to 3-5 business days on some products and 1-2 business days on some in 2012 as I am able to better capitalize.
For mods, the estimated turnaround time will depend on the details of each mod. Bear in mind though that unforeseen issues, such as back-ordered parts, can delay turnaround on mods as well. I will do everything I can to mitigate these situations.
For custom built pedals (or standard builds with customized options), the turnaround is currently about 2 months. However, my focus for now will be on building stock for the store, so for fairly complicated builds the wait may be longer.
“Turnaround time” for me is defined as the time from order to shipping. This does not include transit time after the item ships. All build and mod times are also dependent upon backlog of orders. Just so you know.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT PJ PEDALS DOES NOT GUARANTEE TURNAROUND TIMES FOR ANY PRODUCTS OR BUILDS.
Q. Warranty? I can haz warranty?
A. All builds and mods come with a lifetime, transferrable warranty on parts and labor. The only time warranty is refused is in cases of water damage, tampering, and other such trauma, or if it is apparent that the damage is due to misuse. For warranty work, you only pay 1-way shipping.
However, mod warranties only apply to work performed by me. Any failure of the original unit as a result of a modification will only be taken care of by us if the damage was due to negligence on my part.
Q. Great! How do I pay you?
A. My preferred method of payment is paypal. I do, however, accept cash (local only, DO NOT MAIL CASH), check, or money order. If paying by paypal, payment is due upon receipt of the order and if no payment or contact is received for 7 days from the date of invoice, the order will be cancelled. If paying by money order or check, your order will be held an additional 5-7 business days until funds clear. If your mailed check or money order is not received within 14 days of invoice, the order will be cancelled.
Products in the store: Simply use my shopping cart here on the site. You will check out with the “Pay When Product is Available” option (the only option). I will invoice you via paypal when the estimated completion of your pedal is expected within the next 3-5 business days. Please be aware that while I take care to be conservative with my time frames and not over-promise, it is inevitable that on occasion I will invoice and receive payment but encounter an issue which prevents us from shipping your pedal within that 3-5 business day window. I will make every attempt to keep you up to date when these issues occur.
Be forewarned, while I warranty my work and will gladly work with you if dissatisfied, for custom builds and modifications I cannot provide refunds. Let us know the problem if you have one though, as I are positive I can work it out.
Q. How much is shipping?
I generally charge $7-10 per item for USPS Priority Mail shipping. However, in most cases I reduce this shipping rate when multiple items are ordered. This price is fairly fixed, and actually usually is at a slight loss for us. But I think it’s a fair and appropriate shipping charge.
Certain products have a lower shipping amount set. It costs us just as much to ship these, but when the price is below a certain point it seems unfair to us to charge a bunch for shipping. I try never to charge more than 10% of the purchase price for shipping (though some special items require a higher shipping cost due to size and/or weight). I do however have a minimum shipping charge of $5 per order.
I will gladly use another carrier at the customer’s request, and sometimes use FedEx or UPS as a cheaper option if available. If I use another carrier at the customer’s request, they will be responsible for the original shipping fee quoted or the actual shipping, whichever is higher. If an alternate carrier is used by us without the customer requesting it, the shipping charge will remain at whatever was quoted to the customer.
Q. I emailed you regarding a pedal/mod/etc. and have not yet received anything back. What gives?
A. “We” is used metaphorically around here. But currently “we” are a one man operation. As such, life can get in the way. “We” can assure you that “we” will get back to you as soon as “we” possibly can.
Q. I need my pedal modded, but it’s crucial to my sound and I have a gig in 3 days. Can you rush my order?
A. I cannot. If you need a pedal modded and do not have a backup, please make sure not to send us ymy pedal until you can afford to be without it for 1 to 2 weeks. As mentioned previously, I cannot guarantee turnaround times.
Q. I want to order x product from you, but I need this customized, this switch put over here, and I need it in a different color, etc… Can you do that?
A. It depends. If the change to the build you are asking for is minor (and by minor, I mean LED color or something to that effect), there is no problem. However, moving of controls, adding features, custom colors, etc. will require an up-charge and your order will be treated as a custom build. Bear in mind that the enclosure size, control layout, etc. may need to be changed to accommodate your request, so that can increase the cost as well.
Any options/changes/customized work not listed as an option in the store will incur custom build rates and likely will require a different sized enclosure.
Q. Whatcha gonna do with all that junk? All that junk inside ymy trunk?
A. I’ma get get get get you drunk. Get you drunk on my lady humps. (I don’t really have lady humps. I’m a dude.)
